Quote of the Week 3-1-09

March 8, 2009

“One ought never to turn one’s back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half.”
~Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965)

Sounds like a spin-off of Roosevelt’s quote “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” (technically, the title “spin-off” goes to the quote that came second, and I’m not sure which one that is). If you don’t face your troubles/fears/dangers they will never disappear and therefore will forever haunt you. If you don’t “turn your back” you will be able to conquer that fear. You might not completely remove that trouble/fear/danger but you will at least know that it is smaller than you. Fear feeds off of fear and fear produced from running away. The only way to stop this perpetuation is to hold your ground.
