Oh No! Time Travel!

November 15, 2009

I have grown fond of this time-reflection theme, found in the posts Evolution and Retrospect, that I decided to make yet another post on time. (Be sure to read the two posts made before this one before you read this one…… please.)

I just wrote that everything happens for a reason, but what happens when you throw time travel into the picture? I said not to dwell on the things you can’t change, but with time travel, you can change mistakes (ignoring all of the time travel issues connected with memory and whatnot.) But if you are able to go back in time and fix a problem, are you really learning from this mistake? With the thought that “I could just time travel and fix that up if something goes wrong,” you may end up making the same mistakes over and over again.

There was a saying that says that you cannot learn from a mistake if you cannot recognize it as one. With this new technology (that doesn’t exist,) errors that one makes are no longer viewed as mistakes, but as minor typographical errors of life that simply need a quick spell check; clearly nothing important to remember (I’m being facetious here.)
