Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

December 24, 2010

I decided to watch “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” on DVD today to get an idea of how the Broadway musical will turn out like. Let me just start by saying that I absolutely enjoyed the film. The film involves two gay drag queens and a transvestite who embark on a journey to perform around in Australia. The three, Tick (Stage Name: Mitzi), Bernadette, and Adam (Stage Name: Felicia) encounter terrible bouts of homophobia from town to town. This musical’s score is composed of Pop music from the 90’s and earlier (the film premiered in 1994).

Hugo Weaving plays the role of Tick, Terrence Stamp plays the role of Bernadette, and Guy Pearce plays the role of Adam. I must say that Guy Pearce made it difficult at some points to look away 😉 , too bad all three of these actors are straight and married. That’s okay, because in the Broadway performance of “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert,” Jeff Metzler will be the understudy for the role of “Young Bernadette.” I’m assuming that the musical will have the “how it began” story in it. All it takes is for one specific actor to feel a little under the weather, and then I will be hearing Jeff Metzler sing “A Fine Romance” in the second act. (That would be a nice Christmas present 🙂 ).

Anyway, Enjoy these screenshots from the movie “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” (Click the Images to Enlarge):
